How to find a Mac's specs?

My friend is using a Mac at work, but he really doesn't know anything about Macs (neither do I); he's just using Photoshop and Illustrator.

For some reason they need to get a new Mac, and I was asked if I can recommend some specs for the new machine. In order to think of something I asked for the current specs. My friend has no idea.

So my question: how do you find out the specs of a Mac: processor(s), memory, HD space? Can it be found using Mac OS, or is there some program to download that can give these info?

I am not sure if there is a way to find info on a mac, but almost every mac comes pre-built exactly the same.

http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/index.html, this will link you to specifications after you answer a few questions. click your type of mac, whether it be G4, G3 Server, G5, iMac, etc..

A 'thing' called 'System Profiler' in Mac OS X will tell you what you want.

You'll need to open 'finder' and look in 'Applications'.

But depends on the version being used.
