• Download defs.zip and unzip* to C:\unzipped\.
  
  
• Navigate to your Ad-Aware installation folder (default is C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-aware SE Personal\). If you have already done an auto or manual update before, you may already have a file named 'defs.ref.old', which is what the auto update renames the file to. Delete this old file before continuing.
  
  
• Rename defs.ref to defs.ref.old.
  
  
• Copy the defs.ref file from the unzipped folder and paste it into your Ad-Aware SE Personal program folder. (C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-aware SE Personal\)
  
  
• Open Ad-aware via shortcut or ad-aware.exe and run a scan
  

*XP - Right Click, select 'Extract All' and when asked for a location type 'C:\unzipped\'

98, ME, 2000 - Use a 3rd party app like WinZip and unzip it to C:\unzipped\
