Website Server Question

Website 3

Where is each website (the data) stored? - Hard Discs...

His question is how is it arranged.

Well i think each website would be on it's own hard disc. A few sites on the same disc would be crap performance...

It would like trying to open 50,000 files at once (figure is negotiable)...

I would think the discs would be of the SCSI type, then again they could be IDE's...

I have no idea on the exact setup. But i think one of the RAID configurations would be used...

Sorry, Madboy. I should have been more explicit. Powerless has got it. Each site on its own fixed disc, eh. That sounds sensible. I'll look up RAID configurations.

I'm doing a course about the Internet and although it's explained how the whole thing works, nowhere is there an explanation of how the various websites are arranged on a web server.

It seemed to me that when different websites, in their folder(s), are uploaded to the server, they cannot just be randomly arranged (rather like just sticking folders and files anywhere on your computers fixed disc - there has to be some sort of logical structure). I've looked in books and articles and scoured Google for the answer - but!

Anyway, thanks Madboy and Powerless for responding to my question. If you come across any more information regarding the way files are structured on web servers I'd be grateful if you let me know. ;)

Regards

Pete
