Cannot get to log into my servers

I've just installed a wireless network in my house using my main PC and a laptop. I do alot of website updating, and I have just finished loading my programs onto my laptop.

I can access my web files on my web space on my main pc, but I cannot gain access on my laptop. I get partial access ie I get passed the password and username prompts but thats it.

I have looked at the excepetions on windows firewall and my ftp program is set ok.

Any help is appreciated.

I can now only get to my files via ftp if i turn the windows firewall completely off, yet me main pc lets me log in with no problems. Any ideas?

I have checked the setings on my main pc and all the settings are the same as the laptop. Is there any other setting I could check?

Routers (wireless ones especially) sometimes cause problems with something called an MTU (Max Transfer Unit) - that's basically how many units of data can be transferred at once (usually in packets), from you to your ISP and vice versa. It may come with an MTU too large or small for your ISP's routers. Contact your ISP and find out what your optimum MTU setting is, then set that in your router. Typically, this is a number between 1492 and 1500. Setting it incorrectly won't mess anything up (except while it's incorrect internet access may (not likely) be blocked), so if you want you can actually just use every option between there until you find the correct one. Just remember, this is typically and will not be certain. Also, be sure to write down the number that is in there now, that way internet access can be restored if it is interrupted.
