my Computer Won't shutdown ?

hey first of all my pc wonot shutdown somtimes after i click shutdown ,first log off and save setting data

are ok but at shutdown the screen freez and stoped ,so that when i restar windows againe scan disk do scan

for drive.,please how i can avoid this proplem and my pc shutdown normally?

Hello osama aani and welcome to the forum. Your problem can be caused by several things from faulty drivers to conflicting software. How long has this been happening and have you installed anything recently that may have caused this? Please post back with this info and we'll try to help you. :)

thank you very much my dear djohn for your fine welcome and your ans. my windows are sp2 this has

been happend since one month nearly before this date i have installed norton go back v 4.2 .this software

work ok without any proplem to this moment.in my starup list nav ,ad watch (ad-aware),spyguard,trojan hunter

and my C drives space now 41%,MY PARTITION FAT 32.

i always notice my hard drive is reading (red light on) and delay turn off after end of my ssesion in computer.

Hello, and don't worry about imperfect English. As long as we can understand what you mean, we will be able to help you.

As 'djohn' wrote, it can be many things, including infection with some malware. What I would do in your situation is to stop all running programs before shutting down, then try to shut down.

First, close every visible program that shows in the taskbar.

Next, close every program that shows in the systray (right side of the taskbar). Most programs that reside in the systray can be stopped with right-click, then Exit or Shutdown.

Then open the task manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del). There should be nothing in tab Applications, but tab Processes will still contain many things. Check if there is an application that has not completely stopped (this happens sometimes with Outlook). End these processes if you find any. End any other processes that you think are not part of Windows.

Now try to shut down. And please report back if you were successful or not.

There is a very useful tool - msconfig - that can tell you what is loaded at Windows startup. Go to Start -> Run, and type msconfig, OK, tab Startup. In there you can see what starts it (Registry or Startup folder), and what exactly is loaded. If you have any doubts if something should be there or not, please post it here again, and someone will advise you.

If you think your system may be infected with some malware, please read this topic how to scab your system for malware, and how to post the report.

I agree with what you have been told and about your Go-Back software.

Go-Back caused me lots of problems in the past so that I will not have it in any of my machines now.

Rather than use Go-Back, I would suggest that you make regular backups of your system and use those instead, if you need to.

There is also System Restore in Windows XP. I know it is not the same as Go-Back but it does serve for part of what the Norton software does and can be useful in an emergency.

I ran Go Back with NO problems at all for quite a time. Then one day it fouled everything up. When I tried to uninstall it, it took over an hour to run the uninstall. NEVER AGAIN THANKS.

hi for all,i very glade to reply to your fine comments,i donot think my system may be infected with some malware because i install best softwares anti malware and spyware (spybot s&d,spygaurd.blaster and ad-awre pro with ad-watch)and trojan hunter 4.2 for anti trojan and nav 2005 and iam scaning on line from symantec corporation at every 2 weeks .i followed your steps to check start up i havenot doubts about this. i will try to uninstall go back and make restore system in my windows. what is your opinion of this step? or you have anther comments? reply if you can?

Try that and see if it improves your closing down, if not, use windows own "System restore" to go back to a date just before installing norton goback. hi djohn,thanks for your quick , now i can shutdown my pc without proplems after i uninstalled

"Goback" .from day i will try (system restore) to go back to a date i wanted.

i turn off my computer 3 times after uninstalled all thing ok.
