big-dave
Hi,I went to switch my computer on the other day and... nothing. There was no lights no sound no flicker of life at all, I checked the fuse and power cable before anyone asks. On the power supply unit there is a green LED which is normally lit when a power cable is in with the mains switched on, this however is NOT coming on and there is absolutely nothing happening when the on button is pressed. I thought that this must be the power supply unit being dead. One of my mates suggested it may be the motherboard and to test it. Could it be the motherboard? If it is the power thing would it have to be replaced by the exact same model? The one in it now is a Bestec ATX-1523F 150W. My computer is an emachine. Thanks in advance, any help would be much appreciated!!
trackrat
It is very unlikely to be your motherboard. The fact that you have checked the fuse, and the lead and nothing powers up, suggests that the PSU has died, or the switch is faultyyou can replace it with another PSU, to try it.If you are interested I have a 235w PSU that is in good working order and you can have it for the postage costs. If you are interested PM me. Boris
Just a comment !In my experience, the older e-machines PCs tend to have smaller non-standard PSU's fitted (micro-ATX -smaller than the "normal" size).Check the dimensions before you get a replacement. You may be able to get a replacement Bestec ATX-1523F from here ?Hamiltone, 38a Station Road, Portslade, Sussex BN41 1AG, (01273) 701648http://www.hamiltone.co.uk/psus.html
VistaForums
I can second that, emachines have tiny PS, about half the size of a normal one. Be sure to check the size.
