hi i am runnin windows xp pro and i keep gettin a message sayin that my password will expire in

x amount of days then although i have never passworded my sysytem how can i stop this

happening plz

This may help:

By default, Windows XP is set up with passwords which will expire after 42 days. Windows will warn you of this fact with a message saying "Your password will expire in 14 days" and prompt you to change your password. If you do not want your passwords to expire do the following:

1. Go to Start --> Run and in the Open box type: control userpasswords2.

2. Select the Advanced tab in the User Accounts window.

3. Press the Advanced button below the Advanced User Management header.

4. Select Users in the Local Users and Groups.

5. In the right pane, right-click the user name for which you want to change the setting and select Properties.

6. On the General tab check "password never expires."

7. Click Apply and OK.

another way of getting there:

To prevent the password on a local user account from expiring:

1. Click Start, click Run, type compmgmt.msc, and then click OK.

2. Double-click Local Users and Groups, and then click Users.

3. Double-click the user account that you want to modify

4. Then click to select "Password never expires".

5. Click OK, and then close the Computer Management dialog box.

Err, yes :)

It's part of the "superior" security that XP Pro is supposed to offer but, in reality for a lot of people, it is an annoyance.

May have been disabled by the installer/supplier.

I don't bank online. Once after a Microsoft update, I was presented with a log on icon. With help from here I got rid of it. I just press the start button and the computer boots up, and Mailwasher shows me mail that is waiting on the server.
