Serious Problem with XP/Vista/BootCD Nothing Works!

Recommended Posts

Ok, so Im running Windows Xp Pro x64, and windows Vista 5308 on a dual boot just fine for a while, then I finally decide to try and get the PowerNow crap to work in XP pro since it was always running my Turion t 1.6Ghz at 1.6ghz weather it was on battery or not, so I download some drivers, they were for powernow, and I go to restart and it reboots just fine. Then when Im trying to change my power settings it freezes so I have to turn off my computer. Then when I go to turn it back on it just stays on the boot screen w/ the xp logo and the little bar going back and forth forever. It does the same thing If I try to boot up windows vista, and when I boot from the XP cd and it goes through loading all that crap like drivers and stuff and then it freezes when it says "starting windows" before the screen comes up where you can choose to repair, install new, or enter recovery console. Thats what makes this so odd and wierd. Oh yeah and It wont boot into Safe Mode or Last Known good Configuration, both just hang at the same time in Vista and Xp.

BTW: It freezes when booting in safe moods right when it goes to Load multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\windows\system32\acpitabl.dat

Help? Is there anyway to rollback cpu drivers? This has me stumped. I really dont want to reinstall my xp pro since I have a lot of stuff on it which I need. Take into mind this is a laptop I am talking a bout here.

No backup?

When I used to mess about with beta versions of Windows, I ALWAYS made sure I had a full backup of my working system before doing ANYTHING at all with the setup - either the original Windows of the beta one. I'm pretty sure Mr Gates strongly advised this as well.

This has nothing to do w/ vista. I wasnt even in Vista when it happened. Im just saying nothing will boot period. Xp wont boot, Vista wont boot, Xp cd wont boot, Vista dvd wont boot.

Something has disturbed your operating system installation - this is apparent by your computer not functioning. There is a good chance that it could have been Vista - this is something that is quite possible, expected even, with beta installations - they are by definition trial programs and one must be prepared for them to not behave in the way that one might hope for.

Even so, ignoring the dual boot with a beta O/S situation, it is strongly advisable ALWAYS to have a full backup of your working system and, if you are carrying out any changes that could fundamentally change your computer - as you are doing here, I would strongly recommend that a fresh backup is made before you make this change.

I appreciate this is of no help to you now but, it could be in the future.

Familiar with any Linux? You may want to boot into Knoppix and backup any data you want to keep then nuke your drive. Theres a nifty little (literally) program called "Boot and Nuke" that will wipe a hard drive to all 0's and fits on a floppy (or CD). Especially useful for destroying data completely and permanantly. After this, you should be able to re-install Windows.

Unfortunatly, as extreme as it may seem, this may be your only way out.
