ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
I have a DELL OptiPlex GX270 at home that I use for various things, but mostly running 24/7 crunching ClimatePrediction numbers. From time to time I see a little USB logo in the systray with a balloon saying that this device (it doesn't say which) would run faster if connected to a USB 2.0 port.Question: how can I tell which of the 8 USB ports are 2.0, and which are 1.x? -pops-
I would have expected that in a modern machine ALL the USB ports would be the faster version (little point in installing the slow version now).According to the sales spec on the link you gave, the ports (2 front, 6 rear) are USB2.0If the message refers to something like a printer or scanner, it doesn't matter very much which flavour of USB it is as the mechanics of the device prevent it from taking advantage of the higher speed. If your USB connected devices are working to your satisfaction, leave things as they are - you never know what mischief can be caused by unnecessary tickling of the parts. ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Thanks for the explanation. I did read that PDF file, and it was there where I found that I have 8 USB ports. But somehow I failed to see the little number 2.0 beside it... :paperbag1:

Yeah Ano
We use GX270's at work and have had instances like ths. Some times you just need to re-install the Dell USB drivers for this message to stop appearing. Try this.Other times though its the ports themselves that have become faulty and we have had to order in new mobo's under the warranty.Hope this helps
