Low Hard Drive Disk Space

Hey,

A while ago I reset my Dell D600 laptop, unfortunately I didn't have the proper driver's so I borrowed the drivers for a Dell D800. Everything works fine, however I have noticed my hard drive has been filling up alot quicker than it was before. I have recieved several notifications lately telling me I have no hard drive space left. I understand that I do, in fact have alot of files on my computer, but it never used to be an issue until after I reset it. If anyone knows if this has any relation to my resetting the computer or have had similar problems and know how to solve it, I'd greatly appreciate some advice.

There are a few different reasons it is filling up.

System Restore.

System Restore is set by default to use 12% of you disk space. If you have a small disk, it takes less space, but 12% is quite considerable if you need that space.

Hidden/System Files

These files are hidden from view, so you will not see the space they are taking. They are required and there is nothing you can do about this.

Page File/Virtual Memory

There is a saying that your Page file should be 1.5 times your RAM, and has been confirmed by Microsoft, but some say this is a myth. If you have a tremendous amount of RAM, ususally a 1.5 page file is too much. You can reduce the size of this, but it is not recomended.

The best option would be to delete some files you no longer need.

CCleaner can remove temporary files and may free up some space, but probably will not fix your problem.
