Serial ATA & IDE

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I currently have an IDE hard drive fitted.

I am looking at getting another one for backup purposes.

My motherboard (ASUS P5P800S) has two SATA slots. Can I use a SATA hard drive in conjunction with my existing IDE drive ?, or should I just get another IDE drive ?

any help greatly appreciated

thanks

I am disappointed with my experience of SATA drives, finding them difficult to set up and to use.

Even though the boards I use may have SATA facilities, I still prefer to use IDE and if more than two pairs of IDE items are required, I install a PCI card to provide extra IDE connections.

Having said that, yes it is possible to use both systems together.

Others may well differ in their view - wait to get some other opinions :)

I have an ASUS A8N-SLI board and the SATA drivers were pre-programmed into the motherboard, so no messing with floppies.

As your motherboard is a socket 775, it is reasonably up to date, but if you have to add the SATA drivers, on W2000 you will need to find out how.

I use SATA & IDE drives together and have had no problems.
