kismetk Posted April 19, 2006 Report Share Posted April 19, 2006 HiMy Win Me system is wireless connected to my XP machine and accesses broadband via this connection.Suddenly, IE will no longer access the web, it says "detecting proxy settings", then the usual This page cannot be displayed. kismetk Posted April 19, 2006 Author Report Share Posted April 19, 2006 Further to my previous post, in a situation which appeared similar on an XP system where internet connection was lost I was advised to run WINSOCKXPFIX.EXE - can this be used, or is there something similar to this for use on my Me system? kismetk Posted April 19, 2006 Author Report Share Posted April 19, 2006 I do have problems with the wireless connection sometimes, and have to restart, or even shut down completely and start up to get it going, but I've done this a few times, and it seems to be flashing away, but still no internet.My machines are currently quite distant and I don't have cables, so wiring together wouldn't be very easy :) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Yeah Ano Posted April 20, 2006 Report Share Posted April 20, 2006 IE will no longer access the web, it says "detecting proxy settings"Have you had a look in your IE settings,(toold, internet options, connections tab, LAN settings) it may be that for some reason the tick box to say use a proxy to connect to the internet is ticked which i wouldnt have thought u would want ticked (unless ur using a proxy :D ). Dorian Posted April 24, 2006 Report Share Posted April 24, 2006 Just a suggestion, not sure if it will work, try running it "hard wired" can you get a connection then. Are you sure its not your firewall blocking the network? Can you manually assign an IP address to the mac address (say 192.168.0.10) then filter that ip address through the firewall using rules. kismetk Posted April 25, 2006 Author Report Share Posted April 25, 2006 As it seemed the wireless connection wasn't functioning properly after all, I disabled the wireless security, which gave the Me machine internet access again.
