TenaciousMe
The other day I was trying to shut down my computer (Ctrl,Alt,Delete) and I must have hit something by mistake. Now, whenever I use my internet browser, some of the websites that I usually go to have REALLY small fonts. In some cases, the text is so small that it's indiscernible. In other cases, the font hasn't gotten smaller but has changed completely. When I try and change the font size/settings in Internet Explorer under 'Internet Options' and 'View', nothing changes. Same deal with Firefox.Clearly I've changed some kind of setting on the PC itself.Any ideas on how to remedy this? I use a Japanese version of Windows ME so it's tough to figure out as I can't read Japanese. Is there a 'Ctrl' or 'Fn' button I might have hit by mistake that controls that sort of thing? Thanks in advance.- TenaciousMe
-pops-
Can you do a System Restore to before the time this happened?Do you always shut down via Ctrl/Alt/Del? This isn't the recommended method.
dadyassa
Maybe you have changed the screen resolution by mistake, that would change the text size ?

-pops-
It's a long time since I used ME but, if it's the same as XP, go to Help & Support and System Restore is one of the options on the main page of that. Sorry I can't be more specific. If you can wait a while, Pat Willener is our guru in Japan and no doubt he will be along. He may be able to help a little better. Scarecrow Man
ctrl + will increase the text size, ctrl - will decrease it.Do either of these have effect?
TenaciousMe
System Restore to a couple of days ago only screwed up the fonts further. Now the 'Minimize' icon is represented by the number 0, the 'Maximize' icon is the number 2, and the 'Close' icon is some strange symbol. And all of my text fonts look small and like Windings.Does anyone have any clue as to how to change the system's fonts DIRECTLY on Windows ME? ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Sorry, I do not know much about Windows ME; this is the only Windows version I have skipped since Win 3.1.But let's try to see what we can do to restore your original functionality. Do you have the original Windows install disk? If so, you could try to run the system file checker. Go to Start, Run, and type cmd. In this command prompt window typesfc /?This will show you the program switches that are available for Win ME. If /SCANNOW is one of the available switches, typesfc /scannowThis will scan for missing or damaged files and replace them. Reboot after sfc is complete. If this did not fix the problem, we may have to do a Windows repair install. I have done that many times on Win98, but of course never on ME. But ME is not far from 98, so we can use similar procedures. For now, waiting for your response.B.t.w. is there any reason you are using Japanese Windows if you cannot read Japanese? TenaciousMe
Pat,Thanks for the help re: my Japanese Windows ME problem.I'll try what you advised and let you know.I'm using a Japanese OS because I live in Tokyo and was given this computer by my girlfriend. It's Japanese and so is Windows ME. At some point down the line I want to try and install an English version of XP on my PC, but I'm seriously afraid to touch half of the buttons on this thing. I can read Katakana and Hiragana, but no dice on the Kanji.Just for reference, here's the computer I'm using:http://www6.plala.or.jp/vaiomind/panasonic.htmI'll get back to you. Cheers for the help!- Marty
ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Hi Marty,You have two options to get an English Windows version on that PC:If only you use the PC, then install English Windows from scratch (format HD)If you share the PC with your girlfriend, you can install English Windows beside the current Japanese Windows ME, and allow dual-bootSome information on English Windows, Japanese keyboard, and dual booting can be found on my very old website that I have been maintaining since 1995 at http://www2.gol.com/users/pbw/jkeyb.htm
