ThorntonReed
Hi,I've recently started having trouble booting into Windows XP. When I switch on my computer, the system reaches the Windows Logo screen and the green scrolling bar will scroll across once, before a blue screen flashes up for a split second. The computer then gives up and starts again, going to the 'boot option' menu, where the various safe modes can be selected.I have tried running check disc through system repair but it did not have any effect.Although the blue screen only flashes up very quickly, I managed to read what it says (with the help of a camcorder!). It states:A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUMEIf this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any Windows Updates you might need.If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing.
