-pops- Posted May 11, 2006 Report Share Posted May 11, 2006 Are you trying to do this on WXP? Have you been successful before?I am doubtful that this can be done on WXP (or WNT or W2K). Windows XP works from the NT (new technology) engine which is distinctly different from, and not backwards compatible with, MSDOS. I use Ghost 2003 and have no problems at all.In all versions of Ghost preceding version 9, you can backup or restore using one of two methods:1. Open ghost in Windows select backup or restore which ever you are doing and follow the prompts. You can make a GHOST Bootable floppy during the backup operation.when you give the OK on the 'Run Screen' this will reboot the computer and run Ghost under its own PCDOS to do the backup or restore.2. To restore your system from a ghost backup you can also use the GHOST Bootable floppy. Reboot using the Ghost floppy and when in Ghost select 'Local' ... 'from image' then select your backed up Image Select the drive partion you wish to restore then GO.This will backup/restore any windows system ( Win 95 up to and including XP ) in FAT or NFTS format. *************************************************************************************Ghost 9, I found to be an absolute disaster, as you cannot recover a system backup without using another sytem to run the damn thing.It took me three days to get back my system when trying to use Ghost 9. That is the problem as I see it.Exactly. i want to run GHOST on DOS. ghost on windows won't help me. i don't need it.i checked config.sys and autoexec.bat and they are both not exist.What shell i do? maybe the dos mode is not ok? it's seems i dont have the Command-introduction right before i get the command prompt. it's like i dont have a normal dos. That is the problem as I see it.The Ghost Version ( PRE V 9) I refer to runs with it's own PC DOS which in the first option I suggested and is loaded on the Ghost reboot, the bootable floppy you can make has PC DOS on it.edited comment:-You need the windows version to create the BOOT FLOPPY with GHOST and PC DOS on it.
