gordythegouge Posted May 16, 2006 Report Share Posted May 16, 2006 Hi,running XP Pro, on an AMD Barton XP2500 CPU with 1 Gb of RAM and all updates in place! Whenever I try to drag and drop MP3 files onto the MUVO player it hangs the PC, mouse doesn't work and I have to reset the m/c. The mouse is a microsoft intellimouse USB connection, as is the player. For some reason that evades me completely, I don't have that problem on my daughter's laptop running XP Home but I've tried it on a spare PC running Windows 98 and the same problem occurs. Firmware of the player is up-to-date and this is really p*****g me off!! -pops- Posted May 17, 2006 Report Share Posted May 17, 2006 Are both the mouse and MUVO operating from the same USB port?I recall that the MUVO, when connected to a computer, draws its power from the USB port. The mouse certainly does so, possibly the combined current being drawn by both devices is in excess of what can be supplied by the port (500mA) and the computer hangs.Just a thought. gordythegouge Posted May 17, 2006 Author Report Share Posted May 17, 2006 Thanks for the replies.......additional info.....it's a 512 Mb chip memory (No hard Drive) and I've tried it in the spare usb slot at rear of PC and in both the spare slots at front!! Same response! Sometimes I can actually get 6 or seven songs to transfer before the PC locks up. At this stage CTRL ALT DEL won't help or give me back my PC.....I have to press the reset button.......hardly ideal. I have contacted Creative but I might as well have been talking to a stuffed teddy bear! I have all the firmware and software updates from their site but that's it. If I had the time I would re-format the PC and try again but as I've just done that with the WIN98 PC I don't think that that will prove to be a success either?Thoughts?Thanks for the input.thegouge Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
-pops- Posted May 17, 2006 Report Share Posted May 17, 2006 I still think it's a power issue.Any possibility of plugging the mouse into a PS2 port (they usually come with a converter/adapter to enable you to do this) and see what happens then? I tried transferring the files with the charger connected to the MP£ player and lo and behold......success! Use a powered hub to connect the MUVO (but not the mouse).b. Install a USB PCI card so that you have an independent powered USB port for your MUVO.c. Only use the MUVO on your computer with the charger attached.My preference would be b. if you have the room. -pops- Posted May 17, 2006 Report Share Posted May 17, 2006 I've changed my view slightly about the reasons for the lack of USB power as a 300W PSU is probably the absolute minimum you could run a modern computer on. I would strongly suggest that you install a more powerful PSU, even in the absence of doing any other alterations.
