Windows XP and Dell

Recommended Posts

As you will probably know, Dell do not give you a Windows CD when they ship out your PC. So I was just wondering if it would be possible to acquire a copy of a Windows CD, and then install it on my Dell PC using the product key Dell have given me.

Anyone know?

Thanks

I myself have a dell pc, although it does not come with a windows disk there is an option to create one --> from the start menu is an application that will create a recovery disk which is actually Win XP OEM , But I know this is only avable on computers after a certain date. As for the licience key im not 100% cert but at my guess it should run as long as it is the same version of windows as what you have installed (Probably XP Home OEM vers). Can you not re-install from the hard drive partition?

This is no help of course, but I cannot understand why computers are supplied with no CD. When I had mine built three years ago, I insisted on one, and have used it several times since. I would not consider replacing this one unless I received a CD.

I am in the same situation. I have a dell laptop and no windows disk.

After i searched all over the internet on how to build that disk, I got a response that I cannot do that. I shall have to orde it from DELL.

Some DELL computers do had an utility that allowed the user to create a disk. But that was for a short period of time.

And right now I am stuck with a hidden partition which is the rescue disk. The bad thing is that Norton ghost doesn't work always when someone tries to create a backup image. it needs some custom settings, so beware of this thing. Check the disk before deleting windows :)

I am thinking at a way to create that disk and not to order it from DELL.

That disk contains all the files from the windows cd kit. I assume.. And a lot of other stupid utilities. Maybe there is a way to do build it ..

And, yeah, very cute, they do not accept users from other countries other than US. So I cant ask them for help or order that CD. :(

They keep doing stupid things all the way... Bastards! .
