hobden Posted May 21, 2006 Report Share Posted May 21, 2006 Hi XP GurusHaving trouble getting a stable internet connection.XP was installed. Then I installed my modem. XP said modem was 'working properly'. Indeed it dialed-up correctly and i got online.I installed the disc driver that came with the modem - Windows came up with warning about 'not verfied software' and that i might make the system unstable - i continued anyway.And sure enough the internet copnnection went haywire about 'security warning' and 'registry problems'!I installed a standard modem driver from within windows - same thing happened.The self install said it couldnt find any drivers for the modem and 'would you like to searhc the internet?' - that would be a bit difficult if I havent got a working modem!Any ideas Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

hobden Posted May 21, 2006 Author Report Share Posted May 21, 2006 Yes, but the same thing happens when I reinstall the modem.I get a message saying ' this software is not revified by windows and could casue stability problems'. When I connect to internet (succesfully) afetr a few minutes a big message comes up on the screen saying 'security alert..bla blah blah ' and ' registry problems'.It occurs everytime I install my modem.If let windows onstall it itself it says 's'search the internet' but I cant becuase my modem doesn t work!The driver on the install disk causes this windows warning as well, just before you install it.Any Ideas? Also tried the default drivers during auto-install.Both times I get a warning about 'this software is not tested by windows ...could make system unstable'. I dial up and it connects. the I get an error after a few minutes browsing 'security alert' and 'registry problem' windows come up and the system freezes.The problem is when I start surfing, not when I install, though I do get an lert when I am installing the driver which says ' this software is not verfified to work with hardware' and 'could make your system unstable'. It says this even for a simple default modem driverfrom the windows driver directory.I think it is something to do with firewall and security control...but I dont know much about these things. Have you successfully used it elsewhere? Are you installing the drivers/software EXACTLY according to the instructions? Have you tried another modem?The message you are getting suggests that either the modem wasn't designed for XP or there is something wrong with your XP installation. Is SP2 installed? Whether I manually install or let windows do it, it comes up with a warning that the software in not tested by windows and may cause instability! But it IS a compatible modem and driver. You ought, also, to install an antivirus program before you connect to the Internet then other anti-malware programs.Have a look at this as well.
