heather2x Posted June 5, 2006 Report Share Posted June 5, 2006 Hello everyone!I recently installed Alcohol 120% and I'm trying to burn an image file (in this case a cue file) and create a DVD. I use the Image burning guide, and when I press "start" in the final dialogue box, another box opens and it demands that I insert an empty DVD into my DVDRW (an external one, by the way) in order to start the burning process. After I do, Alcohol tells me that the Device status is "Empty disc (DVD)" and yet the actual burning will not start.I know that it isn't a hardware issue, because burning images using other software (such as clonecd) works perfectly well. Well, not quite the same situation but my DVD recorder requires disks to be formatted before is sees them properly. It does this automatically on insertion of a disk and takes few minutes to complete the process.On to the prime subject of this discussion, I tried Alcohol 120% and found it, let's say, less than successful. It didn't like my setup - telling me to insert a disk when there was one in there and not seeing installed devices. Nero, Pinnacle, WinDVD, DVDShrink and a couple of other programs find my arrangement of a DVD burner, a CD burner and a DVD ROM perfectly OK.I removed it PDQ. I expect the issue to be related to the software rather than the discs, however, because all the other dvd-burning programs work just fine.As for giving up on alcohol, I'd heard beforehand that the program causes more problems than it solves, and I honestly have to say I agree... the only reason I installed it in the first place was the fact that I needed some program that could burn .mdf images. -pops- Posted June 10, 2006 Report Share Posted June 10, 2006 Googling comes up with several .mdf burners, apart from Alcohol 120%.I have never heard of .mdf files before this thread - do you have a special reason for needing them or could you substitute or more conventional format? heather2x Posted July 10, 2006 Author Report Share Posted July 10, 2006 Hey guys,I'm awfully sorry, I messed up the file formats - when I mentioned that I needed to burn .mdf files I actually meant .mds files. Explains why you had never heard of them, -pops- :P Though that googling of yours seems to have showed that there ARE in fact .mdf files. cozofdeath Posted July 10, 2006 Report Share Posted July 10, 2006 The burning apps pops listed will work, except for Windvd. Not sure about that one, but most burning programs should recognize .mds images. If you mess with images often or have problems with this one, you may want to try ISObuster or ISOmagic. They are really good tools that allow you to do a lot to an image and I know with ISObuster you can even recover corrupted file and scan the images for problems.Are you sure about changing the dvd/cd formats (dvd-r/dvd-rw/dvd+r) by formatting the disc?
