right click on disk drives in

Recommended Posts

See, we have this cat who loves to sleep on the laptop keyboard. last time it took 2 weeks to revese what she did.

The problem this time is that the right-click menu on the disk drives in My Computer (HDD & DVD & any removable) default to "SEARCH" rather than "OPEN" which, although not serious, is a damn nuicance!!

A friend told me it's a registry mix-up. Now the registry is just a bunch of very long anonymous numbers to me. Any simple method of sorting it guys?

Thnx, A

Have you concidered just getting rid of the cat.?, Or perhaps locking it up in another room to sleep. ;)

Instead of letting him/her destroy an expencive piece of electronics..

Have you considered shutting down the computer before the cat uses it?

I know that cats love to sleep at the weirdest places (and times), so if your cat has selected the keyboard, then there is really not much you can do.

Then there is Pawsense - a program that allegedly helps protecting computers from cats. Not sure if it is for real - I think it's just a joke.

so if your cat has selected the keyboard, then there is really not much you can do.

Sure there is, You correct the cat on it's mistake.

You really have to remember something about animals, They'll continue pushing your buttons

( not the keyboard, ha ha ) until you accert yourself as the dominate ( alpha ) leader of the territory ( household )..

In other words, Until you establish some ground rules ( authority ) with your pet they'll always do those kinds of things..

It all boils down to just putting your foot down.. And my little dachsund knows that.. ;)

annie_m did you manage to solve your problem??

Hi, nell. Fraid it didn't make any difference. I may have to resort to a pre-snooze restore!!

Oh, Jason, Good point re-get rid of cat (not an option tho'- she's very old and creaky and needs all the warmth she can find!!) or turn off machine. Now this particular evening it was half way thro a virus scan so i left it to it; usually i put a hardback book on top to prevent such things, but this time i just forgot.. s'what happens when you get old you see! lol

Well i really have to say that i wasn't trying to be nasty or hateful in that post, But you asked for opinions and advise on the subject. ;)

I would have to think that if it were my laptop that she were sleeping on and causing irrepairable damage to that i would try to change the cat's bad habit and provide an alternate sleeping spot for her..

It's kinda like i said in my earlier post about the owner of a pet "Having to put his or her foot down" and show your pet that your dissatisfied with there behavour.. ;)

I just can't believe what I am reading. Fancy letting a cat wander round the house doing what it wants. Are you also one of these families that allows it to jump up onto kitchen work surfaces. YUCK!. I wouldn't even have one of the wretched creatures in the house, but even assuming that I did, we have things called doors.

Your opinion about felines is well known, but fortunately not everyone on this planet shares them :)

Whatever my opinion, I just cannot understand why people allow them to lie on their beds, or climb all over food preparation surfaces. UGH!!! It also beggars belief that anyone would allow these creatures to wreck expensive electronic equipment, by lying on it.

Thank you Pat.

Yes actually we do know what doors are and we use them. just so happens the cat and computer were in the same room - not the kitchen btw! Right, all else has failed so a restore it is then..

Well, a nice neat techie fix would have been nice, but the mallet approach of a system restore will do it too!!

All's back to normal, and no 'damage' done. Oh, and Cozof, Windows-'L' it is from now on - i have a post it on the corner of the screen to remind!!! lol

Our dear old mog will still be allowed to sleep in warm places Andsome but not in the kitchen, and not on the computer. Doors eh? who would have thought the uses that can be got out of them. My Life

Ta for all your help folks.

 I don't get it.. What was the point in that andsome.???

Point one. I am pleased that all is now well.

Point two. It is nice to hear of a cat that is NOT allowed to sleep in the kitchen. I am disgusted that so many are allowed access to food preparation areas.

Point three, I like the humour about the uses of doors, maybe this slipped by you.

Point four, just ending up with a smilie.

OK now?

Now now, boys. Calm down. It's all fixed now, and no harm done. let's have a pint and talk about England not winning the cup hmm? (or is that a tad controversial?? lol)

Luvs, A xx

It's blokes queer sense of humour. As regards England winning the world cup, I have grave doubts.
