TenaciousMe Posted June 9, 2006 Report Share Posted June 9, 2006 I use Windows ME and have been having a problem for the past several weeks getting video files to play.I used Windows Media Player for months and never had a problem. Suddenly, when I tried to play a file, the picture just froze immediately but the sound continued to play. The picture comes up for about half a second then just freezes while the file continues playing. So I'm pretty sure it's not a codec problem.I tried uninstalling then re-installing WMP. Same thing continued happening. I tried using WinAmp, VLC Player...no difference.I tried changing the program with which I download torrent files. No dice. I swept my PC for viruses and the like. Nothing.I even did a system restore but the same thing keeps happening. Files that I had before this started occuring still play, but any new ones that I download just freeze at the 00:01 mark.Does anyone have any idea what may be happening or how to remedy it?Thanks! But could it be that your HD is extremely full and also very fragmented?If so, I would use CCleaner to clean some unnecessary files from your computer, then run the Defragmenter. Using software like Bittorrent and related peer to peer software lays your computer open to have all manner of undesirables installed into your machine - not from the software itself but from the computers you connect to for the downloads.I suggest that you do a thorough check for malware.
