Windows/Remembering Passwords/internet history

Hi all, first time post here, hopefully one of you will be able to help.

I have recently changed ISP from Virgin to Telewest Cable, and all seems fine but Windows now seems incapable of 'remembering' any history. I'm fairly computer savvy, so I don't think it's something I'm doing wrong. For example, when I log into hotmail or gmail or MSN messenger, I always choose to 'save username and password' on this machine. But when I close down the window and try to go back to hotmail or gmail or any forum I'm a member of, I have to log in again. Before I changed ISP, I could turn off my whole computer, and when I turn back on again I'm automatically logged into all accounts/internet forums that I am a member off.

Also, it doesn't remember my internet history in the little drop down address bar at the top. Again, I've been into 'Internet Options' and it's set to keep the pages in its history for '20 days'. There is something really amiss here, either with the settings in Windows or my computer cache.

For your information, I use Windows XP (Home), Internet Explorer and it's a modern laptop; all that's changed recently is my ISP. Oh, and I now use PC Guard as my anti-virus software, whereas before I used Symantic norton antivirus, which is still active in there somewhere. Don't think this would have anything to do with the problems though...

Thanks.

Ahhh, that was the problem. I didn't realise that having two anti-virus software could play such havoc with my machine. After much messing about, uninstalling Norton (which in turn rendered PC Guard useless, for some reason) and PC Guard, reinstalling PC Guard, I have my computer back.

Thanks for your help!

Can I bring up this subject again???????????????

I've checked all setting in Internet Options and don't see any changes. Suddenly, the drop down in the address bar is empty and all cookies have disappeared in Browsing History, constantly have to log in to various sites. I routinely click Delete Files but a certain amount of them are retained, now nothing when I close the browser on IE7, XP Home edition.

Security is set on Medium.

thanks.
