Ok so this is gonna be long.

I have tried searching posts already to no avail.

When i boot my pc it works fine, after about a week or so it wont boot.

It hangs in the Xp Pro boot screen and continues to scroll forever.

it then reboots itself and shows the following screen.

If a previous start up attempt was interrupted due to a power failure or because the power button was pressed, or if you aren't sure what caused the problem choose Start Windows Normally.

Start Windows Normally

Use the up and down arrow keys to move the highlight to your choice.

Start Windows Normally cause it to hang on the load screen and reboot.

Last Know Good Configuration does as above.

Safe Mode restart once it gets to and loads MUP.sys

So i format using boot disks and reinstall.

After reinstall all is fine.

This happened again, so i format again.

The third time i get pissed off so when i reinstall i selective put files on.

It works for a while longer than before, but then it went wrong again.

The Fourth time it happens im ready to put it through the window, i try a new Hard drive (SATA 250Gb)

still no joy.

The Fifth time i replace the power supply (500W, double previous)

so this is the sixth time that this has happened.

i ran memtest86 and it shows no error, i really dont want to buy new RAM as that is too costly.

all these hardware changes and no solution makes me think its software.

whether the xp2 disc from pcgamer i have is stuffed or updates aren't installing correctly i dunno.

Anyone had the same kind of error? or found a solution.

its really annoying, i dont want to have to but i may have to take it into PC World or somewhere to see if they can fix it.

Hope someone can help, im desperate.

Is it too far down the road to do a 'system restore' to a time before this problem?

If so don't you have a back up to fall back onto?

If the answer to the second one is NO, then pops will have a word with you.

Is it a hint that your copy of XP may not be genuine?

Assuming it is then, as you have changed the hard drive, increased the power of the PSU, the next possibility is that the RAM is faulty or that there is a fault on the motherboard itself. Is the RAM installed as a single stick or multiples? If multiples you could test them out by removing each one in turn to see if the fault returns.

First of all, though, ensure that everything that is removable (RAM sticks, power and data connectors to motherboard, drives etc.) is firmly and fully pushed into the sockets.

cant start wnidows to get to a system restore point.

i meant SP2 no xp2 :P

the SP2 install was attached to PCGamer Magazine one month.

ill have a try at the ram. they are x2 512Mb. im seriously hoping it aint the motherboard, cause heatsinks/fans arent the easiest things to attached and detach. heh.

Do the plugging-in checking as well.

I spent ages once trying to sort out a machine that had an intermittent fault only to find out eventually (after stripping it down) that a pin of one of the Molex connectors wasn't making proper contact - causing the whole machine to malfunction.

I don't know how trustworthy something like that would be, Like as in maybe something funny is going on when you load/install that disk..
