savak Posted July 2, 2006 Report Share Posted July 2, 2006 How can I extend the time that Windows will try for when connecting to a site? I keep on getting this 'Timed out' error for a particular site, the site is up and running when I tray from someone else's computer. But ALL 3 of mine at home have this problem. I was using I.E as that was the only browser that fully supported that site.After multiple failures trying to get in, I tried my usual browser, Firefox. That loaded straightaway. I found out at the same time that esp@ce had been upgraded to fully support Firefox as well.What I'm suggesting is try another browser to see if that works. Once it opens locate the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\InternetSettings key. Add a dword value and name it KeepAliveTimeout. Then add the appropriate number in milliseconds. For more info on that visit...http://support.microsoft.com/kb/813827/Firefox'sType about:config into the url box. You should then see all of firefox's preferences and a filter box. Type timeout into the filter box. All of the remaining preferences are firefox's timeouts. You want network.http.keep-alive.timeout. cozofdeath Posted July 4, 2006 Report Share Posted July 4, 2006 hummm, does this happen even after a restarts? Could your say what site your talking about? Is there anything in your hosts file? If its only this site and others load fine it may just be the route your data is taking to that host and the certain time of day. To test this do traceroutes to the site. You can do this through a command prompt by entering tracert then the ip, or from an online site like www.dnsstuff.com/, but I would recommend pingplotter. Yet I can access it from work that uses a different internet connection company.Pinging worked as it did before.I seriously think this is a problem with my ISP not my end. cozofdeath Posted July 5, 2006 Report Share Posted July 5, 2006 I don't think adaware or spybot will do that, can anyone here state that for sure though? Do you have a firewall other than Window's ICF? If so shut it off for a min and flush your dns by typing ipconfig /flushdns in a command prompt then try the site. It could be possible that your ISP blocked the site for some reason. This site says all of their dns servers are recursive (anyone can use them) so maybe at some point someone took advantage and your ISP blocked the hole class c ip range ex. (66.36.233.xxx), which would include the webserver. Thats just speculation, you would probably have to email your ISP for that one. But anyway at the bottom of that site you should see a thumbnail image of the site. As for getting to it yourself try using just the ip ( http://66.36.233.69/ ) or a middle man deal like using googles translator to translate the website from whatever to english even though its already in english. savak Posted July 6, 2006 Author Report Share Posted July 6, 2006 My ISP say they don't block sites. I have had an email from them asking me to ping the site from the Command Line. Another thing you could try whether that works or not is to try this link http://panoguide.com/contactus/index.jsp, maybe that will work. The site could of blocked your ip range. Its happened to me and some of my friends before, not from that site of course. That page will give you a online form to fill out and send to them about site problems.
