jeg1972
2 days ago my MB went out. So, I bought a new MB, processor, ram...etc. I didn't think abt the power supply. I put everything in and went to boot up. It went through the BIOS then I selected Start Windows normally or whatever it is. I see the windows load screen for a few seconds then it goes to reboot at which point I can then select safemode, last know good config., etc. It then does the same thing. I finally thought about the power supply. I have a 250W supply but the board needs a 300W or 350W with full configuration. Could the supply be my only problem? I just want to make sure it's that or should I be looking for something else. I'll be picking up the supply tomorrow. Thanks in advance,-Eric
-pops-
Yes you do need a better PSU but something else occurs to me, what about the hard drive you are using? Assuming it is the original, Windows recognises the hardware it was previously attached to and, as this is now different, it will not work. You will need to do a re-install of Windows for it to associate itself with the new setup before it will run again. jeg1972
Ok, thanks. I went ahead and upgraded to 380W but I still had the problem. I currently have XP Pro on the HD.Here's my problem now. :) I dont' have the disk anymore. I do have XP Home Edition. Can I install that over the XP Pro fairly easily?I also bought a new 300 gig HD. Can I also install XP home on that without getting into the Windows Genuine issues? What's the easiest way to get all the stuff I need off my old HD to my new one? Should I just slave it? A lot of the apps were DLed off the net like system suite, Nero, etc. I assume I can just reinstall the download and enter the key I got in the emails but I'd like to make sure before I start making all these changes. Thanks in advance,-Hit
-pops-
It is very difficult/impossible to "downgrade" a drive from XP Pro to XP Home. So, your notion of loading on to your new drive is a good one. If your copy of XP Home is genuine there will be no issues to get into. It will activate on a new system without problems. (If it is a old version do ensure you install SP2 BEFORE connecting to the Internet).Once you have your new system going you will be able to download all your applications from the 'net as before and use your original key codes. When you are fixed up, then is the time to install your old drive as a slave and transfer the old files. Then you can reformat that drive and use it as an auxiliary.
