Guest Nellie2
I have a hankering to learn graphic design  I am very impressed by some of the 3D designs that I have come across and would like to be able to make some too. But..... I am a total artistic newbie, I don't even know which programs I should have. I probably need to go on a course. Can anyone recomend a course of study or a site where I can get some more info??
artist
Well not sure if this is going to help - I had Corel - found it really confusing even after going on a couple of courses. The trouble with courses, is that too much is packed in during the 7 or so hours. As soon as you get home you've forgotten most of it.Now I've got PSPro. Much easier but a lot to learn - only done by playing with it. Also need a decent drawing prog. Have tried many free downloads - some better than others. If you put PSP in Google there's LOADS of good tuition to be had - most of it nice and clear.I've been on a few PSP courses - same result as Corel - just TOO much to absorb. There's been quite a few good graphic progs on magazines - always worth a go - but make a restore point before installing. Guest Nellie2
Thanks for that artist......... I will have a search about :)
Guest moon
What sort of graphic design, nellie ? Just 3D, Flash, CAD stuff or what ? You could start a tutorial forum here or fit it in under another heading. Learning in a forum with your mates is much better than banging away on your own. :)
Guest Nellie2
Well that is it Moon...... I am not sure, like I said I am a total artistic virgin. I like the stuff herehttp://www.digitalblasphemy.com/dbhome.shtmlI had a thought that I might be able to create some wallpapers of my own, just for my own amusement....... I don't really want to manipulate images like photos.... at least I dont' think so.I would like to see what I could come up with in my head......fantasy or dreamscapes or just total abstract images.I think I probably need something simple to learn with and then take it from there. I only have my keyboard and mouse at the minute. I might have some old coverdisks with graphics programs on but I am not sure what yet..... I will have to have a rumage.I like the idea of a graphics/artistic board here..... if there is the interest then I will ask craig nicely if we can have one. :)
Guest moon
Excellent ! A lot of those cover disc apps. are outdated before they even hit the shops. You'd be better off with some modern software. PM.
artist
They are outdated, I agree - probably why they're free. But to have a play with, before spending good money, they fit the bill.
Guest moon
True enough. Perhaps we should settle on one app. if we're going to learn in a thread. I've got PSP 7. Have you tried your graphics tablet through PSP, artist ?
Guest Nellie2
I take it you are talking about Paint Shop Pro?....... I do have a version of that somewhere I think it is version 6. I pop in here, but this weather bring people here to visit. We're 5 min walk from the sea - very appealing for city folk! B)

peter e
Hi Nel.There's free Serif software you can download. It's older versions but great for practice - then if you like it you can buy the latest ones. Try the Drawplus and the 3D one. They are easy to use and you can download the free manuals in pdf format. You don't get all the add-ons but then they are free. If you don't like 'em then uninstall. Serif don't give you the hard sell. Just the odd e-mail with a special offer.Get Them Here(download the wizards as well)Pete
Guest Nellie2
Thanks Pete........ I have heard some good things about Serif. Actually I have Web Plus 6 somewhere..... or I did have it. I have done so many reformats lately I am losing track of stuff!!

Guest Nellie2
I spent a happy couple of hours playing around with the program I downloaded from Serif last night.....although what I ended up with was a right mish mash because I really didn't know what I was doing.Found my PSP prog....... by myself I might add!!!! It is version 6. Again, I haven't a clue........ where do you start??? I shall have to take myself off to the PSP site I think and have a lurk on their forum and see what tips I can pick up

Guest moon
Testing, testing Hmmm. How does this 'File attachment' thingie work ? Can you actually post images (Wishful thinking) or do you have to hotlink from a host ?Oh, cool ! It just never showed up in 'Preview post' :D
Guest moon
This might seem daft, or whatever, but I made the first file in 'Paint' , saved it, re-opened it in PSP and saved it again as a J-peg. I posted it here (1) then saved it from here, re-opened it in 'Paint', modified it, saved it and posted it here again (2)At the very least, this means that we can play online 'Hangman' ! :D(2)
