DVD-RW error!!!

Hey all, :(

I've had my DVD-RW drive for a year now came with the dell PC . The PC is windows XP anyways, the problem is that my DVD-RW drive appears to be recognised as a CD- drive. This has only happened a day ago, before it appeared as a DVD-RW drive. When I click on it, it does not prompt me to "insert a disk at drive (:E)" it just come up with a screen as if there is a disk inside.

I think this is causing a problem with my NERO software as I cannot copy to a DVD-RW disk for some reason. This only happened after the drive appeared as a CD drive.

Can somebody help please!!!.

Does system restore lose programs that were manually installed such as firefox, bitcomet, bitdefender anti-virus software. I mean like if these were installed before the system restore point chosen.

System Retry will not change anything which occurred before the restore point chosen. You should however always have the hard drive backed up before using any such program. I used to use system restore from time to time with NO problems at all before I purchased Acronis back up software, so it is most unlikely that you will get any problem at all. It's just that on this forum we are all well aware of problems which may possibly occur on the very rare occasion. Best of luck.
