-pops- Posted August 1, 2006 Report Share Posted August 1, 2006 When I get IRQL errors I usually suspect some recently added piece of hardware that the machine is unable to cope with. First of all suspect a RAM error. If there is more than one stick installed, removed one and see if that effects a cure. Otherwise it may be a lack of power available from the PSU at startup. Is there any recently added hardware on the machine? Even if not, try this.Detach every item of hardware that is not necessary for your computer to run, that is all printers, scanners, modems, memory sticks, extra CD/DVD drives (other than the main one you have), extra hard drives and anything else that draws power. So, you have then a basic setup with, say, motherboard (and memory), one hard drive, one optical drive, floppy drive (optional). DO NOT detach cooling fans.Boot up the computer and see how it runs. If it's OK, add what you consider the next most important piece of hardware and give a test run. Then the next, then the next and so on. You should reach a point where the blue screen appears. When that happens, go back a stage and remove one of the "good" hardware items and install the problem one. If the blue screen appears then it is pointing to this hardware being a problem one. If it runs OK then it points to a power issue on startup.This is sounds more complex than it is to do.As an illustration of what I mean, a friend has a machine that has a USB self powered scanner, two printers and a USB modem attached. Every time it boots up, an IRQL error is displayed. If any two of the peripherals are unplugged at startup, the machine boots OK and it continues to run if they are plugged in when the machine is going. -pops- Posted August 1, 2006 Report Share Posted August 1, 2006 Cant be a lack of power its a new PSU 550 watt.If there are a lot of peripheral devices connected, they are all in a maximum power drawing mode at startup and it is possible that there is insufficient power at startup to permit each device to become operable, whereas everything may be OK if powered up in stages.Even if it is not a power issue, something is causing the message and my suggestion of detaching all non essential devices and then re-connecting in stages is a way to discover this cause.
