Im trying to get off linux, so I want to get back on XP.

I have installed XP on this machine several times, but something new is happening. I put in the disc as usual, press any key blah blah...

Then it does the normal Inspecting your computer's hardware, but then the text dissapears and leaves me at the screen.

It doesn't do anything after that. Is this a problem with the discs or my computer.

and format the HD. This will of course only allow FAT32 format, but you can reformat it later with the Win XP disk to NTFS.

So why not just reformat as NTFS to begin with..??

I agree that all traces of previous operating systems should be removed from a drive by a full format before installing Windows.

Even if you quick format the hard drive there will still be no traces of the old system left behind... The windows installer will just write over the top of it.....

- - or you could do a low level format (return to "factory condition") using a utility from the drive manufacturer.

Here , You need to get F-Disk.. and put it on a floppy disk and boot from that....
