All works fine except sometimes the boot.Approximately every third boot Windows isn't able to boot. I can than only boot with the last known good configuration. In the event logs there is nothing conspicuous to find.What i did up to now:- Deactivation of the write cache of the SATA II hard disk.- Creation of the swap file. Before i didn't create it because i have enough memory (2 GB) ;-)- Installation of the latest driver versions of the MSI motherboard and the graphic board ATI Radeon X1300.Has somebody a tip how to solve this problem?Any feedback is welcome.Best regardsMartin Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
-pops- Posted August 13, 2006 Report Share Posted August 13, 2006 Is this a commercial build or home build?Has this failure to boot been there since new or only after your adjustments?If it's a commercial machine and the effect has been there from the beginning, I would take it back to the supplier as there may be other, as yet unseen, problems. If you built it yourself, we will try and help you out.You say the fault occurs every third (or so) boot. Is this a cold boot (switch on at mains then switch on computer) or is the mains connected all the time and booting is done by pressing the power switch on the case? Switch on at the mains, wait for about 5 minutes then operate the power switch on the computer to boot up.I've seen a similar problem where the power supply unit took a noticably finite time to become operative and supply the correct power to all of the motherboard, including the link to the power switch that keeps the PSU powered up. I'm not saying that it certainly is that problem but it may give an indication of what is wrong. I cured the problem I experienced by replacing the PSU but, oddly, I used that same PSU to replace a failed one in another machine and it worked OK. What you can do is try putting your ram in adifferent slot or trying replacing your ram with a ram that is known to be working(You can borrow a ram stick from a kind hearted friend.) -pops- Posted August 21, 2006 Report Share Posted August 21, 2006 Have you tried rohan's suggestion of swapping the memory sticks?If you have more than one stick, remove each in turn and note if that cures the problem.Also check that all connectors and memory sticks (anything that's removable) are fully pushed home Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

All the connectors are fully pushed home.Btw: My motherboard is a K8N Diamond Plus from MSI and the memory sticks are of type DDR (Transcend Module), DDR 400 for DualChannel Function.Now i hope this solves my problem.
