XP can't connect to internet

Hi

My Lenovo laptop runs XP pro and Fedora Core 4 . I never have problems connecting to the net in China, anywhere I go. I just plug the broadband cable in and I have a connection.

Now I'm vising my in laws in Japan, they have a broadband connection that looks exactly like the one we have in China (infact the router and modem are made in China) but when I put the cable into the laptop I dont get a connection. Firefox 'can't find the server' and IE 'no connection was detected' . I cannot ping anything but the LAN connection on 'show all conncetions' says I am connected and has an IP address and DNS servers and defaul gateway and everything. I clicked 'repair' but still can't connect.I would suspect that it is due to some special strange connection system they use in Japan ,except that Fedora conncets to the net with no problem and it's ifconfig output is identical to XP's ipconfig.

The strangest thing is that with the internet connection they got some booklet ,explaining about the ISP which claims the only OS they support is Windows.

I never had to manualy configure internet connection in Windows ,so I have no idea what to do.

I don't mind just using Fedora to access the net while I'm here ,but I'm interested to know how to solve this problem.

Solved it!

I changed the IP address/ default gateway/DNS details in connctions>LAN>properties>TCP/IP>properties

I guess it was set to manual and I thought it was set to automatic...
