Divine_God Posted August 30, 2006 Report Share Posted August 30, 2006 I don't know if this is the right place to put this since I'm new here...and kind of a newb at computers, so I was hoping someone here could tell me what to do plz!I was playing WCIII (On my friends comp of course) then it started to get really laggy. I went on IE and ran the virus scan "Bitdefender" finding several viruses which was odd because his computer is hardly EVER that laggy. Immediately after the virus scan I turn off his computer...now here's the problem we have:I think someone hacked us. We try to start up Windows, EVEN Safe Mode but it restarts everytime we get to a certain spot. We then tried to go itno our setup menu (F2 in beginning) but it had a password! WE NEVER SET A PASSWORD TO IT! Although we tried all of our regular passwords nothing worked....He has Windows XP and this is our first time ever getting hacked, can someone please help??? It seems we get only 3 tries at the password then it tells us to hit F1...but that doesn't even work =/I just wanna know...because I'm sure we could get a new harddrive but I don't feel like spending so much time or money, so is there any way I can do this without doing that? When you tap F8 during bootup, to go into safe mode, there is a menu that contains "boot to last known good configuration". Try this, and you may be able to boot successfully.Next you need to address the virus infection(s). When you ran Bitdefender, did you actually remove the virus infections found? Either way, run it again after successfully booting, and try to remove all infections.You write you were "hacked" - that is indeed a possibility when running without a firewall. andsome Posted August 30, 2006 Report Share Posted August 30, 2006 Do you have an anti virus program, do you have a firewall, do you have anti Malware programs like A Squared, SUPERAntispyware etc? If not it would be wise to keep off the INTERNET until you do. If you cannot start up, even in safe mode, I don't see any alternative to reinstalling Windows. If you don't have a firewall, install one, e.g. the free ZoneAlarm.;Hmm let's start from the beginningFirst of all his computer automatically shows "Safe mode", "Safe Mode With Networking", "Safe Mode With Command Prompt", "Last Known Confirguration", and "Start Windows Normally". We have tried everything there.We had a Firewall up, and we did delete the viruses. We also had Norton but we refused to use it because we heard Bitdefender was better. Alexis Blaze Posted August 31, 2006 Report Share Posted August 31, 2006 what do you mean with "We then tried to go itno our setup menu (F2 in beginning)"? do you mean enter the BIOS setup?? if so, you can reset the password by taking off and putting back on the CMOS battery in your motherboard.... and about windows always restart, i don't think that it's because someone is hacking throug your system... believe me, no hacker able to hack through a computer when the computer itself is unable to boot... it's just your OS is damage and need to be repaired... to repair this, i think you need windows installation boot disk... do you have access to it?
