bran2020
I just bought a Hanns-G 19inch widescreen monitor, and after I got it hooked up my computer keeps rebooting. It does not always reboot in the same spot. Sometimes I can get as far as to surfing the web or watching a video when it will just restart. But other times I can't even get into the log in screen. I have the monitor set to the resolution of 1440 x 900. I'm assuming it's a problem with Windows because when I boot into Linux everything works just fine.Help please!!!!! I have this nice new monitor and I can't even really use it.ThanksBrandon
Scarecrow Man
Sounds like a driver problem. Did you install the driver disk that came with the product? You may also want to check the Hanns.G Website to see if there is an updated driver.Another good test would be to hook the old monitor up. If it continues to reboot itself, the problem may be your video card.
bran2020
I didn't see any driver on the disc when I put it in. Just a pdf of the manual and a download of adobe acrobat if you didn't have it. I checked the Hanns-G site and found a driver, eventhough they said you don't need one, and installed it in safe mode because that is the only way I can get into windows. This didn't do anything. It rebooted again before I got to the log in screen. I'm gonna check my video card now...Its a Radeon X700 pci-e btw. Thanks for the helpBrandon
Scarecrow Man
I am still skeptical that the monitor is the problem. It is simply an output device. The only thing that interfaces with it is a driver and the video card.I would make sure to upgrade the video drivers.
bran2020
Yeah.....I don't think it's a problem with the monitor either because it works just fine when I am running linux. I can daul boot into either Windows XP Pro or SUSE 10.1.ThanksBrandon
bran2020
So.......I've reinstalled all of my video drivers and the computer doesn't reboot anymore, but the screen goes to no signal. I unhooked the DVI cable and plugged in the D-Sub cable to see if that was it, but nothing. I've ran out of ideas, so unless anyone else has any ideas my next step is going to be to reinstall windows. Thanks Brandon
