What version of windows?

im making a new computer and its going to have this processor:

AMD Sempron 2800+ (SDA2800BXBOX) 64Bit Architecture 1.6ghz Skt 754 Box

i just want to know what version of windows i have to run with it. is it true that you have to run a different version windows because its 64bit? if so, what version of windows shall i get?

Hello User01 and welcome to WF :)

You can use the standard 32bit version of windows XP or the 64bit version with that processor.

You're probably as well going with the 32bit version of XP because it can be problematic to get compatible drivers/software for the 64bit version. As the processor you're going to get isn't that powerful, you wouldn't reap any benefits from using the 64bit version I wouldn't have thought.

so i just want to clarify once more, i can use my standard 32bit copy of windows xp professional with this new amd chip. im going to use the same copy of windows xp i got about 3 years ago.

will that be ok?

If you are buildind a new computer and it is an OEM disk, no you can't as it is tied to one computer, if it is a full copy then you should be OK as long as it is only running on your new computer and not your old one as well.

Yes, that'll be ok if it's a full retail copy of XP and not an OEM version. Just remember to install all the Microsoft security updates to be safe.
