dj_rm Posted September 12, 2006 Report Share Posted September 12, 2006 hiyai have just registered to the forum because i have had a bad crash on my laptop and need some help recovering the fileshere is exactly what happened. i turned my laptop (compaq presario r3000) onto standby the other night as usual, but after about 2 mins it still hadnt gone off. i opened it up and it had blue screened, physical memory dump and all that. so i held the power button and switched it off and left it for the night. next day when i turned it on, it would not get past the windows boot screen...i knew this was because of the bluescreen so i stuck the system disk in and repaired the harddrive, the computer then managed to startup. however, when i logged onto my area, explorer did not open and i could not read any of the files on my desktop, this made me think that there was a problem with explorer itself so i did a full windows repair to try and fix this. afterwards i turned the laptop on and logged on, but i still had the same problem (using safe mode did not help either, the same thing happened)so i logged on as the backup user that i have and explorer opened fine. i then looked on the c drive under documents and settings and tried to get into my other user files (the ones that would not open before) and i got a message saying that the folder is unreadable and corrupt. i then checked the properties of the folder and it should have been a few gig, but it said 0kb. this worried me a lot because i have a lot of very important files in there including all of my dj bookings. right now i am running a recovery program that is scanning the entire disk for lost files, it has been going for 10 hours and is only a quarter of the way through, but has found a few thousand files. has anyone else had this problem???anyone know a way to get my files back??please help me, i really have to get these files backthanksryan :P Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
-pops- Posted September 12, 2006 Report Share Posted September 12, 2006 Hopefully the recovery program will find the lost files for you - let it do its thing without disturbance.I can't be of a lot of direct help myself except to say that if you have anything of even the least importance on a computer you MUST protect it with a backup, preferably on to a drive separate from the machine it is a backup of. When you get sorted out, make it a priority to prepared a full system backup and keep it up to date.Can you remember the message that was on the BSOD defining the error? dj_rm Posted September 12, 2006 Author Report Share Posted September 12, 2006 i cant no, but i will let you know what happens with the recovery program, there is no reason that it shouldnt work becausei have not formatted or even saved anything new onto the drive since this happened so the data should still be there...hopefully loli have a backup of the file i need but it changes from week to week and today was the day i was meant to update the backup lol, sods law that it would crash the day before and i had one new booking yesterday which i cannot remember the date for!!! :( :( Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
