Secodary master , CD-Reader/Writer and DVD reader2. secondary slave , DVD writer.I was about to reinstall windows xp, so I inserted the installation CD to the drive and it doesn't boot from there.I decided to try another installation CD , nothing.I swapped between the drives, still, I can't boot from the CD drive.I activated the BIOS, went to boot sequence, forced it to boot from the CD drive only, HD disabled, floppy disabled and guess what, it did boot from the HD ignoring my request , how is it possible?One more thing , both drives are writers, so when I double-click it should open allowing me to copy files but when I double click the secodary master, I'm asked to insert a CD as if it's a regular CD-rom or DVD-rom. -pops- Posted September 16, 2006 Report Share Posted September 16, 2006 Place the HD on the primary IDE connector and optical drive on secondary IDE connector - that is one on each IDE cable. Do not have any other devices connected to the IDE at this stage.That's the starting point.Primary master : HDD0Primary slave: HDD1Seondary master: LG CD-writer/DVD comboSecondary slave: It's now vacant but before it had been NEC DVD writer, I removed it for the time being, if there's only one device connected to the secondary IDE connector, do I even need a jumper?
