I have finaly got round to upgrading my machine to xp from win 98, I know I am behind a few years but hey.

My computer is about 18 months old so meets the min requirments for xp. I have a 64 amd processor 512mb ram (I know due some more but it's all in the money!), ide hard drive, ide dvd drive and ide cdrewriter on slave.

I can install win98 fine. I knoppix boots fine. So we can say my compurter seems fine with bootable cds.

I fdisked my hard drive to create my partitions. Then I pop in my xp cd. The cd starts to boot and says

setup is probing your hardware.

Then after a 30 sec or so the screen gose black and the cd stops spinning. I leave it and nothing happens. I have checked the disk in another machine and you get to the next blue screen with more instruction with in no time. Dose any one have any ideas? I have tried booting off both cd drives and get the same result. Can some one explain to me what is wrong as my cd drive boot every other cd fine including win98?
