skype problem

hello

im have recently been using skype.. havnt been using it for long and dont know much about it..

but when ever i talk to my friend its constantly cracking up and going silent for a couple of seconds and going quiet at random times..

is this a connection problem or is it a microphone problem..

i believe it is my internet connection. i have wireless internet and i was hoping that there is a program or somone that knows alot about windows to help me solve this problem

me and my friend have cheap mics (non-USB) so is that the problem?

i was expecting skype to be crisp quality for talking to friends over the internet but it really isnt...

is there somthing im not doing right or somthing i can change to increase the quality..?

(another thing is that im using wireless internet and my friend isnt, would that make a difference?)

i have:

Norton internet security

bt voyager 2100 wireless router ADSL

internet with BT

i have been told many ways to solve this problem including:

configuring my firewall to skype

stopping my Wireless Zero Configuration-service (which only seemed to make my internet cut off now and again)

turning off Qos Packet

i dont know what to do now..

please help. im sure theres somthing on windows that i can do to increase the quality of VOIP.

also, if i was not using wireless internet would i get crisp pc2pc talking? and does the cheap mics have anything to do with it?

please help, i have posted this post on a couple of forums now including skype... they wernt as helpful as i hoped.

Are you using mike/speaker or mike/headphones? My thinking here is that if you're using a mike/speaker combination there could be acoustic feedback which the Skype software is cutting off before you hear it. Just a thought.

I don't use Skype as such but I do use an Internet phone system and I found that using the facilities offered by the soundcard (mike with phones or speakers) were very much inferior to using a USB combined mike/phones headset. Best of all, though, is a USB telephone handset supplied by the phone service provider for less than £10.

If you do use a USB mike/phones system ensure that you disable Skype's ability to use the soundcard.
