Bojanglez Posted October 5, 2006 Report Share Posted October 5, 2006 hey guys -my machine (P4 3.2 ht, 2gb RAM, 256 ATI, Asus MBD, Antec Sonata case) has been acting very, very flaky lately and so I took it apart last night to see if I could find the issue and sure enough, the 120mm fan at the back of the machine had stopped working.So, one quick trip to CompUSA later and I had two new fans, a 120mm replacement for the back, and another 120mm fan for the 'mid-slot' (behind the HDD's and facing the processor), and both are working just fine and dandy.With this in mind, I went into the BIOS and started watching the hardware monitor to see how hot it was running, and the CPU temp was still averaging about 54* celcius, and the motherboard about 32* celcius, but I honestly have no idea if that's a good temperature, although my initial impression is that it still seems a little on the high-side and was hoping that:a) someone might be able to give me a rough idea of the 'normal' operating temp of a P4 3.2 (ht) processor so i know if this is in the acceptible rangeB) can anyone recommend any software that runs under windows (XP SP2) to monitor the temperature?c) if it seems a little hot, can anyone recommend any cooling kits that might help keep the temp down?thanks in advance Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
-pops- Posted October 5, 2006 Report Share Posted October 5, 2006 Those temperatures are quite within the acceptable limits.Remember that your CPU will shut itself down before any damage is done to it so, I suggest that you keep an eye on it for a few days - not all the time, of course.Make sure you only do temperature checks with the computer fully assembled i.e. with its sides on. Doing otherwise can give false readings - both high or low temperature levels depending on the layout in the case.Ensure the fans are cooperating with each other and trying to pull air in opposite directions.Most ASUS motherboards have a utility called ASUS Probe (on the motherboard disk) which tells you all sorts of information about what is going on with the depths of the computer.
