How do I clean my computer?

I heard that having your inside computer clean will make your computer run faster.

It won't make it run faster but it may help with keeping it cooler.

I use a mini vacuum cleaner that runs off batteries for cleaning my PC innards, I bought it from my local PC shop.

I used to use an air can but that just used to blow the dust around!

I use either the Miele vacuum cleaner or my dads compressor (plus a few small brushes).

Watch all the "OH NO's" but it works for me.

Miele on various speeds with that long thin tool and the little round brushy one. And the compressor on 130psi with a tool to blow dust off a car before spraying it!

I have tried the aerosols for blowing out the 'internals' but they are over priced and don't last 2 mins!

I also use a small brush from a hair dye (thanx missus) to clean the veins on the various fans and a soft paint brush for other areas. The main areas I find that are better for cleaning are the fans and the heatsink over the CPU and usually the front of the case below the USB ports (on mine) where the air is drawn in by the rear fans.

I used a can of air to disturb the dust, and at the same time held the nozzle of a small portable vacuum cleaner nearby to suck up the disturbed dust. I think that you would have to be very careful with a brush to ensure that it is a natural hair or bristle, I could well imagine a nylon brush causing a problem with static electricity on sensitive parts of the circuits.
