MS Windows Updates

Windows updates should not interfere with any installed programs.

However, as with all alterations on a computer you are strongly advised to make at least a restore point on System Restore before doing anything. A full system backup would be even better.

I does concern me somewhat that you imply that you don't keep your Windows installation up to date with the regular issues of Windows Updates. Do you have a reason for making a special point of stating:

I am planning to do a windows update

To run efficiently and safely, Windows should be kept current by installing updates as they are issued, not on a "special occasion" as it seems you are doing.

However you do this updating, ensure you do it from a Microsoft source, not some anonymous or unknown website that you just happen to come across by Googling.
