I hope I do not lose anyone with this one.Do I have to run Windows 64 bit pro on a P4 3.0 64-bit HT proccessor to get the full use of the processor? I bought and installed a 64 bit windows on my new system and seemed to have problems getting drivers for my other hardware. I know it will run windows 32bit just fine but am I getting the full potential of the processor? If not is there a way to get it with win32bit? Also what is the benifets of my 64bit processor. I have not relised at the time I bought the upgrades that there was not many drivers for my 64 bit windows. Please let me know as soon as possible Cause I am going to reinstall my compter and need to know what i should use. 32 or 64 windows. This would make it false economy to invest in another version of XP when your system is almost certainly ready for the new version of Windows.I don't know a lot about 64 bit Windows but, is it possible to emulate a 32 bit mode? It confirmed that information that i had about the drivers that i assummed as not being easy to get. lol I remembered while reading that when i got the board and processor it was designed for winxp64 and yet the drivers that came with the board would not install on my winXP 64 .. lol I do not understand that one still.And yah pops I can run 32 bit apps on winXP 64 but i was more concerned about the drivers really and wether or not my system was still benifeting even though i was using a 32 bit version of windows.Thanks you guys. r4may Posted October 25, 2006 Report Share Posted October 25, 2006 I tried XP64bit when it was launched and found the drivers were a great problem, the only way to get some of the 64bit drivers was to upgrade my printer, scanner, and camera for new ones as there were no 64bit drivers for them and there was little likelihood of there ever being the required 64bit drivers so I just went back to the 32bit XP as all my hardware worded OK on that.I had no intention of replacing hardware just to be able to run another O/S.However I did not have this problem with Linux 64 which I find very good and able to run my Athlon 64 to its full capacity using 64bit software throughout.I foresee similar problems occurring with Vista which means I will have not reason to upgrade to Vista and may end up using only Linux.
