MS word setting

Hi,

i have a problem with MS word. Whenever i highlight text and attempt to replace it by typing new text over the top; instead of being replaced the old text remains next to the new text. The only way i have found to get round this is to highlight - delete - then replace. I must have accidently hit one of the function keys at some point and i don't know which one it is. Can anyone help me out?

Check in Tools -> Options -> Edit and ensure the "Typing replaces selection" box is ticked.

Pops beat me to it LOL

Sometimes I find I hit/knock the Insert button (next to the Home button) accidentally.

That has the same effect as your problem. So to correct it you can press Insert again, and that sorts it out for me. When you are next in Word, look at the bottom of the screen. You will notice the OVR toggle on and off when you press Insert ;)

D4\/!d's method is the easy one - trust me to go for complexity. Anyway, they both achieve the same end :)

Just noticed - my keyboard is missing the insert key - which is possibly I went the roundabout route. Never noticed that before. The block where the insert key normally live has a double size delete key instead. Oh, just found it hidden as a subsidiary function on the PrtScn/SysRq key.
