Possible hardware problems?

Hi

I'm helping my friend put together a new PC from new and second hand parts.

When installing windows, booting from the CD, as the installation begins [at the ponit where we need to hit F8 to agree to the liscene] the power turns right off.

I figured the second hand power supply wasnt up to it, so we got a new one, same problem...

What could the problem be???

Thanks

Are you loading Windows on to a used Hard drive?

I noted in another post recently that when I build computers, I ALWAYS install the operating system on to a virgin drive. Doing otherwise usually ends up with a lot of time wasting trying to get the thing to load. Even with so-called newly formatted drives, if they've had something on them before, there is a strong possibility of problems.

So, if it is a used drive, swap it for a brand new one and load up your Windows. You can always use the other drive as a secondary one for storage and archives.
