short_steve277
i am using a original windows XP pro SP2 and wondering if i reinstall windows with the same cd key that i got when i purchased it, will windows think that i am using an illegal version and so i won't be able to update my computer. Please help. I don't want that to happen because it needs to be reinstalled
Alan2273
If you have the original CD and it is the full version you can install it on your original computer or another one (but not both at the same time). If it is an OEM CD then you can only reinstall on your original computer, you cannot transfer it to another computer. Alan2273
Provided that it is installed on the machine it came with you will have no problems.By doing a fresh install you will have to register it again.Provided you have not made too many hardware changes you should not have any problems. My brother quite often changes parts in his computer and has an OEM copy.He has done about 5 reinstalls over the past 2 years and has not had a problem registering.
