firefox dude Posted November 14, 2006 Report Share Posted November 14, 2006 Hi, ive been using windows 2000 service pack 3 for a while and decided to get service pack 4. I installed it and it caused tons of memory conflicts and driver errors. It kept restarting when i ran firefox or any anti-virus software. Luckily i scanned through the u$ninstall folders and found the uninstall wizard before windows crashed. So i uninstalled it and went back to service pack 3. Just to note i am not entirelly happy with windows. This computer is my only one using windows, all my others use linux. I was just curious if service pack 4 is just bad, or is it something with my computer? Has this happened to anyone else? please write back. -pops- Posted November 14, 2006 Report Share Posted November 14, 2006 I don't have any direct experience with W2K service packs but I do know that effectively all problems with WXP service pack 2 are caused by errors in the original operating system that the SP is being installed into.Once these errors are corrected, you can almost guarantee that the service pack installs OK.It may be a similar thing with your setup. I have not experienced any problems installing SP4 (but of course that was a long time ago).If your computer is clean (free of any malware infections), then there should be no problem installing any service pack.P.S. which version of PS4 did you installWindows 2000 Service Pack 4 Express Install for End Users ?Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 Network Install for IT Professionals ? firefox dude Posted November 15, 2006 Author Report Share Posted November 15, 2006 I ran it through windows update which is the "express install for end users". I already had service pack 3 so i didn't want to download the huge (300mb compared to 75mb) file for the network install download. When i had it installed it seemed as if windows lost track of my device drivers and program memory usage. And i ran numerous spyware and anti-virus checks and it is clean. If no one else ran into this same problem then i guess my computer just really wants to run linux, lol, so i guess ill continue to run windows 2kpro service pack 3 with Debian (for people who have never heard of "Debian" it is a Linux distro).
