Hi,

I purchased this program a couple of weeks ago and used it to find and download several recommended updates for my PC. However, I'm having great difficulty implementing these updates after I've downloaded them. Sis_ide204a won't let me upgrade because an Msdos message comes up when I try to run from the installer. uli_Integrated21 won't let me upgrade and I get this message..the driver can't install un_ulichipset What's it all about?

Out of curiousity I googled for your file names and the results indicate they are Chinese drivers.

I just Googled Driver Genius Professional and and I've never seen so many red and yellow (danger) indicators from SiteAdvisor in any search I've done in the past.

Assuming Driver Genius Professional looks out the latest drivers (??) then I'm alway tempted to ask of these things why do you want to update/upgrade them?

It's often recommended to update drivers for all sorts of diverse computer problems and it it seldom, if ever, the driver that is at fault. If, by chance, it is the driver it's because the original is corrupted and not because it needs updating and a re-install of the original is all that is required.

Having go that off my chest, can I suggest that, if possible, you get your computer back to how it was before you started all of this and, if there are driver errors, investigate the originals rather than update to something that may be entirely unsuitable - as you seem to be finding.

I have tested the trial version of "Driver Genius" some time ago, and I was really surprised about the completely idiotic suggestions it made. Of course the trial version wouldn't let me download the "new" drivers, but I could see that they were completely wrong (why would my SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio need a driver from an unknown Taiwanese company?).

I think "Driver Genius" is a dangerous product, and I suggest that you throw it as far away as you can.

Updating device drivers is always a risk, but some people (like me) always like to have the latest software versions installed, including device drivers. Microsoft Update will deliver new drivers that are part of Windows. Your PC manufacturer (e.g. Dell) will from time to time issue new drivers, and individual device manufacturers (e.g. Intel) will also regularly issue new drivers. These are the places to look for and download new device drivers, not some obscure tool like "Driver Genius".

Always take a system backup, or at least a restore point, before installing new drivers.
