theleader Posted December 4, 2006 Report Share Posted December 4, 2006 Hello there, I'm hoping that i've posted this in the correct place but here goes.Not to long ago now i experianced a problem and decided to re-install windows xp pro. The operating system was Packard Bell's Windows XP Home, which i was not to fond with anyways, but that's a different matter.Ok so now i have XP Professional, which was one that i bought over 2 years ago, which unfortunately does not have SP2 on. I have used the disk before, on another machine. Due to this i can no longer download any Windows updates.Problem: Now, i could probably get a XP Home disk from a friend, which has been used various times before and install it on the computer. Now here's the question, Could i use the 25 digit code on the bottom of my PC to install it and it all be validated for download?Basic question again: Can i use a copy of XP home and install it and use then the code from the bottom of my computer to be all legal again?I really want SP2 and WMP because using WMP10 really annoys meThanks very much! trackrat Posted December 4, 2006 Report Share Posted December 4, 2006 I may be wrong, but HP computers are supplied with a recovery disk, which restores to factory conditions from a hidden partition.So whether or not it would work with a fresh install from your friends disk I could not say.If you have a full XP Pro disk (or an OEM disk if it has not been registered) go to this url http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloa...us/default.mspx and you can download or order a free SP2 disk.
