Shirley Crabtree Posted December 10, 2006 Report Share Posted December 10, 2006 At the moment I connect to my cablemodem with a usb connection and my 2nd PC connects to mine through nics and a crossover cable.I'm adding another PC to the network so I've got meself a 4 way router and some cables...Only problem is that my PC is configured to connect via usb...So can someone please fill me in on the best way to delete all the current settings and configure it to connect through the router and modem ?OS is XP sp2.ISP is Blueyonder 4mb cable.Cheers.Shirl.Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year to all at Windows Forum :) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
mark2 Posted December 11, 2006 Report Share Posted December 11, 2006 Hi Shirl, Switch off the power to the modem (at the socket), connect your router, connect pcs to the router via nics.power up modem, then router, then pcs.all being well you do not need to do anything further.Check the network connections via control panel, you may have to reconfigure the one you've had connected via USB, turn off internet connection sharing.Once you're up and running you can safely uninstall the BY connection s/ware Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I couldn't get it to work and ended up reformatting this pc...And I'm now connected to the net via the router :)BUT...I was at THIS stage earlier....and with trepidation I connected the 2nd PC in the way you suggested.....and lo & behold the connection on this PC disappeared and PC No2 was connected no problem.I tried all sorts of crap but couldn't restore this PC's connection....So I've reformatted again.I think connecting the 2nd PC upset the ip configuration or summat...Any ideas plz??I've reformatted this bugger 3 times today and I have very little hair left cos I've pulled it all out :(Cheers.
