CJ550 Posted December 16, 2006 Report Share Posted December 16, 2006 Just recently when I try to use Windows Media Player I get a new window saying 'Validate your copy of Windows' and it directs me to a Microsoft site and it tells me my copy of Windows is not genuine. I can no longer access the Media Player? Can anyone tell me how this program got on to my computer and how to get rid of it? and what do I need to do to be able to use Windows Media Player again? thanks Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
-pops- Posted December 16, 2006 Report Share Posted December 16, 2006 In cases like that there is normally some address or telephone number for you to get in contact with MS and explain the situation. There have been a number of instances where the message has been wrong.If it does turn out that you Windows copy is not genuine then you should refer to your supplier. If you're running on a cracked copy of Windows, you are breaking the law; no ifs or buts.As to the second part, yes, you should spend some money and buy a copy of the operating system you are using; it's not yours to use lawfully unless you buy a license, irrespective of how much it costs, or if you think you're paying over the odds for it. I agree, they don't own a licence, their machine is licensed, so they still have the use of a legal copy of Windows.The point I was trying to make is that if you knowingly have an illegal copy of Windows and you ask for help on WF to circumvent security measures or advice on workarounds due to having a pirated copy, then no help will be provided. If you have come across it accidentally, we will try to help but, knowingly using and deliberately showing contempt for other forum members who have paid for genuine software - whether that be Windows or anything else is totally unacceptable.There can be no discussion on the merits of illegal software.
